Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2: Changes tones completely from the horror-filled first to a gory comedy. Doesn’t always work, but decent. 6/10

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974): The suspense slowly builds before the film goes full speed ahead and doesn’t let up until the credits. 10/10

Nightmare on Elm Street (2010): Mediocre remake has the creepy atmosphere of the original down, but the script continually disappoints. 5/10

New Nightmare: Makes Freddy scary again by bringing him into the real world to haunt the cast and crew that made him famous. 9/10

Freddy’s Dead: The goofiest of the series undermines the backstory set up by the original and is only slightly redeemed by decent gore. 2/10

Nightmare on Elm Street 5: Tries to go back to a more suspenseful tone, but also has Freddy on a skateboard and dressed like Superman. 5/10

Nightmare on Elm Street 4: Bright colors, bland teens, and a wisecracking Freddy make this the most MTV friendly of the series. 5/10

Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Brings back the hero from part 1, adds to Freddy’s mythos, and features a great cast of characters. 9/10

Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Ignores the rules set up by part 1 and doesn’t make a lot of sense. The worst of the series. 1/10

Nightmare on Elm Street (1984): You die in your dreams, you die in reality. One of the greatest premises ever for a horror film. 9/10
