brandi, i love how allen clutches his heart as if you’ve broken it into a thousand pieces.

as i watched this, i kept oscillating between thinking you were too hard on him to “c’mon allen!”

I know neither of you have seen it, but I have to throw out The Blob (1988) as one of the best remakes of all time. It’s one of the most underrated movies of the 80s, with a fun script by Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption) and solid direction from Chuck Russell (A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors). The movie pulls no punches when it comes to killing off characters you expect to live in very gory ways. I like it even more than the 1958 classic.

Haha, what, too hard on him about The Departed? We’ve agreed to disagree more than once on that one….

My long term goal now is to turn you on The Departed……and have you watch Scarface!

It seems like the best remakes are usually in the horror genre. It must be a lot harder to remake a drama. And Scorsese’s The Departed, while better directed, is not better than the original.

Oh, and John’s right about The Blob. Great remake.

Good call on Gaslight, Brandi! I actually didn’t realize it was a remake, but I have always loved it. However, isn’t it Charles Boyer as Ingrid Bergman’s husband in the movie? Totally agree about Joseph Cotten though, he was a great overlooked actor. Maybe you guys were mixing actors up with Gaslight and Shadow of a Doubt.

Charles Boyer does play her husband; I spaced on mentioning him. Joseph Cotten is a detective who helps her out.
