Spencer and John look back on Johnny Depp’s rise to stardom in honor of Pirates of the Caribbean 4, share some things they wish would go away now, and give their DVD picks of the week.

For his DVD pick, John selected the powerful drama Blue Valentine (DVD/Blu-ray). Spencer chose the surprisingly funny romantic comedy No Strings Attached (DVD/Blu-ray).

i havnt seen any of his older films so the only thing i can say is about his newer films and to be honest johnny depp is a bit overrated, you take the sweeny todd character and put him in alice in wonderland or charlie and the chocolate factory and you pretty much have the same character. other movies hes been in recently that are not tim burton movies are forgettable as well.

You guys forgot Benny & Joon and Cry Baby (“You finally did it. You put your own Mother in an iron lung.”). Also Nick of Time is a terrific Hitchcock-esque thriller.

It wasn’t that we forgot them…we chose a selection of his movies. We
could’ve talked about his career for at least a couple episodes if we
covered everything.

** Edwin…you should definitely check
out his earlier stuff. It is so much better. Movies like Edward Scissorhands
and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape are totally different – in a positive way.
