Spencer and John look at the cinematic history of the X-Men franchise, preview the indie films coming out this summer, and give their DVD picks of the week.

For his DVD pick, John selected the powerful war drama, Platoon. Spencer chose the Criterion release of the Charlie Chaplin classic, The Great Dictator (DVD/Blu-ray)

I personally have more complaints about X3 than Wolverine, but it’s all kind of a sliding scale. To me X3 is the Star Trek 5, Superman 3, Spiderman 3, Man With The Golden Gun, Jaws 3D part of the franchise where it’s bad, but I’ve still watched it more than once.

I think I’ve seen it twice? I think? It’s too overstuffed with villains and gets to goofy for it’s own good.

Saw X-men First Class, and it kicked all kinds of ass. Definitely better than Xmen 3 and Wolverine. Still deciding where it is in relation to the first two in quality, but it’s one of the good ones. Who knew that Kevin Bacon caused the Cuban Missile Crisis. Go figure.
